Vintage Drinking Guide
On this page I try to give advice on when and how to serve our wines, based on tasting from our personal library.
Last update 22/11/2010.
White Wines
- Muscat of Alexandria
- 2006 - Has taken on an intriguing minty aroma and characters of old dry Riesling.
- One Block Muscat
- 2006 - Still drinking well. Not high in acidity, so drink soon.
2007 - Has developed some nice herby notes as well as good minerality. Drink now.
2008 - Crisp and aromatic and starting to develop some minty notes. Drink now.
2009 - Noticeable Muscat on the nose, lovely refreshing palate. Drink or keep. - La Terre Promise
- 2007 - Has developed more minerality but still has potential to age
further.
2008 - Drinking very well. Lots of fruit and creamy richness.
2009 - Subtle minerality, I'm really enjoying this now but no doubt it will gain a lot more complexity over the next 3-4 years. - Muscat de Rivesaltes
- 2006 - Has developed a nice, subtle nutty, dried fruits character in
place of the floral aromas when young.
2009 - Perfect for getting full, rich, honeyed characters.
Rosé Wines
- The Rose of Treloar
- 2009 - Has now lost its "young wine" character and is very fruit-forward. It can develop tartrate crystals if kept in the fridge for a few days - so don't drain the bottle.
Red Wines
- Le Ciel Vide
- 2008 - Tannins have integrated very nicely and it is now quite aromatic. One of our favourite wines for drinking, especially with lighter, summer dishes.
- One Block (Grenache)
- 2006 - Now developed some aged characters on the nose but the palate
is fresh and the tannins now silky. Perfect.
2007 - Well-rounded tannins and a nice dark-chocolate character. Drink now.
2008 - Drinking nicely now but will develop rounder tannins and more aromas over the next year or two. - Three Peaks
- 2006 - Developing well and maturing well. Has received great reviews
from critics recently. The wine opens up quickly now, suggesting it should
be drunk in the next 24 months.
2007 - Lots of complexity and the tannins have now integrated nicely. Perfect if you like wines with structure. Potential to improve for 2-3 more years.
2008 - Chocolate cake and dark fruits on the nose. A rich palate with nice round, ripe fruit characters to balance the chewy tannins. - Le Secret
- 2006 - Developed a really nice ripe blackberry and chocolate cake flavour.
Drinking really well now with great structure and pleasant acidity but
still has potential to improve for 2 years or so.
2007 - Aromas of grilled Steak. Don't ask me how but that is where this wine is now. Better an hour after opening and very long and enjoyable. Getting into its stride.
2008 - I'm very excited about the quality of this wine as it is made with some barrels normally destined for the Tahi. The first people who have tasted it love it. The nose is a mixture of chocolate cake, tobacco and dark fruits. The [palate is smoother than previous years which makes it more approachable when young. - Motus
- 2006 - Has developed more minerality in place of the powerful leather.
Still has freshness so potential to improve further.
2007 - The impressiveness of the nose has become more subtle and the wine has developed more minerality but it still has some secrets in store for those with patience. - Tahi
- 2006 - Needs a slight amount of aeration to get the wonderful layers
of flavours. If drunk straight after opening, give it 5 minutes in the
glass to see why I love this wine.
2007 - Is only just now available from the winery. Hold your breath, this is a stunner. Fabulous nose of campfires, roast coffee and spicy berries.
2008 - Bottled in August 2010 and is still too young for release. Noticeable campfire oak on nose and very nicely balanced. Only 1600 bottles were made so may be released on allocation only.
